General Question

Recommended Posts

I don't think that's a question that can be answered. It all depends on the physician and their specialty. I would argue that general surgeons are better than internists at diagnosing certain presentations of acute abdomen (like leaking AAA) which they probably see more than an internist. But, they might be less likely to diagnose someone with some connective tissue disease. I've seen many consults where the diagnosis is obvious to the consultant but not so to the person putting in the consult (hence, the consult). As an example, ?hernia which turns out to not be a hernia or a consult for a "testicular mass" which turns out to be the patients normal epididymis.
