really? YOU got put on hold at GWU? that's really surprising!

no worries though, with all those awesome interviews in places like harvard and cornell, you'll def have options!

I have been becoming complete between mid october to mid november, amcas was submitted late september. My last completion was Nov 25 or so at EVMS.

no word from anyone for me except for a pre-interview hold at SUNY upstate

Did you apply to Saint Louis? I was complete there on 11/11 and got an interview invite a few days ago. Haven't heard back from any other schools though.

btw retsage, I was going to PM you but I will just ask it here. What are you doing this year? you graduated last year right?

Taking my American school prereqs (full year of English, Orga, and Biochem). Or, rather, I would be, if my bloody school wasn't on strike. So, realistically, all I'm doing is training Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. :P

I haven't heard back at all from:

SLU

MSU

Vermont

Maryland

Wake Forest

Hopkins

Yale

Mount Sinai

Wash U

Emory

Columbia

Of those, I'd kill to interview at Emory and Yale. Emory for the weather, Yale because, let's face it, it's ****ing Yale, man.

So, I'm hoping there's more interview love coming my way.

Yeah, I'm really hoping for a couple more interviews.

Specifically, Dartmouth and Yale - I love that they give out some financial aid to international students.

My friend who has similar numbers and (probably) comparable amount of EC's has already had his interview at Yale last month, so my fingers have been crossed for quite awhile now.

But then again, more interview invites mean nothing if there's little chance of getting accepted.

I just hope that I'll get accepted to at least one school I've interviewed at so far.

I'm just waiting for some sort of response from NYU these days - last year, they sent out their acceptance in December before the holidays.

I probably won't hear back from Vanderbilt until January or later.

UBC's interview invites will be sent out in early January, so I'm looking forward to that as well.

I've sent a letter of interest to Columbia, but it's such a long shot anyway, so I'm trying to keep my expectation as low as I possibly can.

Currently, I have my eyes set on NYU or hopefully UBC.

I'll send in a letter if I don't hear back from them in December.

I should also send a letter to Case Western although I'm on the fence about that school.

I like the school itself but the city felt so deserted and depressing.

But I'll mostly spend my time in the library and class anyway, so it shouldn't be a big deal.

I just can't get this vision out of my mind, a vision of me with no acceptance after all these interviews and after spending so much time looking up which school has a great financial support or whatever...

That'll be devastating.

Okay, rant finished.

fingers crossed here too. PS Anyone else think that the US' income tax rate is effin amazin? and they are complainin about a 2% tax for > 250,000 income.

I sincerely believe that this is the reason of the bulk of th surplus US docs have over canadian ones.

Hey Schnauzr I hear you on cleveland. All the construction reminded me of Queen's :o

However, ike kingston, it has the "housing-is-so-cheap-I-can-have-a-quasipimp-place-for-less" advantage.

really? I have found that the housing is really expensive in khole because of the idiot students signing everything without negotiating

for what you get/pay here, the value is next to nil, or at least considering what i've seen elsewhere

i agree about the income tax thing, too, it will def help with paying off debts...

also, i did apply to SLU, was complete in mid-Oct... I guess this probably means snail-mail rejection

Yeah you are right. Thats why you don't live in the ghetto. I live on princess street with an agency as my landlord. I do pay more a month than students do on average but I am definitely definitely getting the bigger bang for my buck.

for the price you pay for a sick sick place on the water where the med students live, you could NEVER dream of coming close to that in toronto. The view is still really nice :D

schnauzr, since I'm stalking the NYU thread on SDN....IIRC, last year they were completely non-rolling with all decisions released in March. But they found that a lot of their best candidates had already decided on other schools by then. At the same time, applicants who were really committed to the school found it frustrating to not know whether one of their top choices would come through....many of whom didn't get in until mid-summer. So, they were thinking about trying out what Cornell does by taking in a few people in December, with the bulk of the class being notified in March. I interviewed in early November and it sounded like they hadn't decided yet.

So December could be the month I hear good or bad news from four schools. Or not. Thank goodness I have exams to take my mind off things.

Hey Token,

it's just that I've read on mdapplicants.com that some people are accepted in December.

I know it's not the most reliable source but I don't think they would make stuff up.

I mean, there were a lot of people who interviewed early and got the news in March,

but I think they do give out a handful of acceptance in December.

Anyway, it's not like we could do anything about it,

but I can't help it, lol.

Yeah, we should just focus on the exams, although it's easier said than done.

EDIT: You know what? After a closer examinatino of these applicants, I've realized that they at least have five acceptances each. So, maybe it's only for the TOP applicants that they go after in December.

EDIT again: Right, right. These are from 2007, two years ago. So we really don't know this year, huh? This might actually save me from being overly anxious this month. Cool.

I've been complete now for a while at some schools and have seen other people get invites that were complete after me.

Here are my dates:

Case (complete Oct 14)

Jefferson (complete Oct 6)

Rosalind Franklin (complete Oct 16)

Albany (complete Oct 9)

NYMC (complete Nov 3)

I know some schools, like Dartmouth and MSU, I shouldn't expect to hear from...but what about the others I listed? Do you guys think I should contact them? Send LOI? Anyone here complete around the same times?

Thanks

For Jefferson, unless you have some ties to the state of Pennylvania or the school, I think it's a long shot.

It's weird too because their average stats are lower - somehow, making it seem like an easy school to get into.

But one catch is that, their post-interview acceptance rate for international students is phenomenal.

For 2007, MSAR states that out of 494 applicants, 20 were interviewed and 12 matriculated/2 deferred.

The USnews (2007) states that out of 501 applicants, 18 were accepted, and 11 matriculated.

So although there is a slight discrepancy in the numbers, it seems like most people who received an interview invite were accepted.

For Case, many of us noticed that the secondary submission-to-interview turn-around was exceptionally fast, which seems to suggest that you might be on pre-interview hold.

Why don't you send them a letter of interest? - It can't hurt.

Or to any other school as a matter fact.

Edit: Yeah, I heard Jefferson really values people who show genuine interest in their school. So the letter may have some impact at Jefferson.

Ha yeah. I think last year was the first time they tried the non-rolling thing and now they're (hopefully) going back.

Retsage, were you delayed at Vandy because of the picture/letters? (Un?)fortunately you can't be sure you're WLed because you didn't get the phone call...so hang in there!

Yeah See that's what they said, but what really happened was that the year before that they had 50% acceptance as well, i pulled the stats and posted it in the NYU forum in SDN somewhere.

I don't buy that personally. It was like UWO saying the number of applicants dropping year last was due to not enough seats dropping.

Everyone holds can hold all their acceptances until may 15, there is no pressure to select one early on. So for those that had intention to attend NYU would have waited until march.

Alastriss, I'm with you that it may not be the entire story, though it may not have to do with the quantity (how many they have to accept to fill the class) so much as the quality. I know at Cornell we were explicitly told (the admissions director was refreshingly frank about it) the reason why they gave out December acceptances is to guarantee that the superstars who will probably get accepted to UPenn, Columbia, Harvard et.al in March will think of Weill more highly. One of the first years I talked to at lunch cancelled interviews even at top 20 schools after December because he was really happy with Cornell. At NYU I don't remember if they mentioned Cornell by name, but they definitely talked about how they were following the lead of "other schools in the area."

Ok so I need some advice, and I figured best people to ask are those going through this wonderful, ulcer-producing process.

Do you guys think I should book an American interview on the 25th of March or the 31st? IF I get any Ontario interviews, they would be likely the weekend of the 28th/29th...so I'm just wondering if it would be wiser to do it before hand (maybe get some more practice in) or if I should do it after so that I'm not rushing from one city to another, especially if I get more than one in Ontario for potentially the same weekend?? I need to schedule this interview soon, but I just don't know for when!

Maybe not token, but it is interesting to hear your side. Funny thing is that that 50% thing was like that the year before (I stumbled on the 2007-2008 NYU thread and found a guy who posted the stats last year). It will be certainly interesting to see how things pan out. Good luck to all!
