family med electives

i know for competitive specialties you usually have to do an elective at the school to be considered, even if school's "policy" says you don't, is this the same with family med??

It seems like this year for CaRMS family programs are being more selective in who they offer interviews to, those who from either their application or personal letter look like they're just be using family as a back up seem less likely to get an interview this year at certain sites.

 

If you want family at a certain site like U of T, U of C or other more competative sites you should probably do an elective there even if they say one isn't required for interview consideration.
