oral $ maxillofacial sugery program

Recommended Posts

Is it competitive to become an oral sugeon in Canada? I know that each dental school only accepts 1 or 2 max students per year. Anyone familiar with the selection procedure?

Do US dental schools accept canadian DMDs for this program? Is it more competitive or less? Anyone familiar with the selection procedure in US about this program?

i have a friend who is canadian who just finished up oral surgery in the states.

Yes, it is crazy hard to get in up here. You better your odds by applying to the states, but it will still be really hard to get in, although you would have a much better chance at a private school.

If you only have p/f marks, they will look to your board scores, and rumour has it that the american board is going to p/f as well, so if that is the case they will look to your class ranking as well as recommendation letters from clinic instructors etc.

well, depends on the school. some will look at ur research and extra-curriculum activities. some will look at the school u r from. sometimes it's not what u know, but who u know that matters.

and really.. there's not hurry to decide in what u wanna do now. get a taste of dental school first. some ppl may discover their true passion in another specialty. some ppl may decide they are so fed up with school and will just be a GP.

Canadian programs are difficult to get in because of few positions. The good US programs are also extremely difficult to get in. There are so so programs in the US that are easier. Overall, you will get a much better training in the US due to wider scope.

They look at your dental school ranking, board scores, letters of reference, research experience, externships, undergrad GPA (for 6 yr programs).

They also look at your personality, communication skill at the interview.
