I think i'm going to drop / fail astronomy and its not required for my major nor is it an elective for med school. How will this affect my chances of getting into med? how will it affect my gpa?

The AQ score is calculated based on your overall GPA and your last-60-credits GPA. Failing your astronomy course would definitely affect your overall GPA and potentially your last-60-credits GPA depending on your current year-level.

 

How will this affect your chances of getting into medicine? Obviously failing a course should be avoided, but it shouldn't be a deal buster in the grand scheme of admissions.

If its not too late DROP it. I would imagine it may be too late?!? If you drop it it won't affect your GPA just your course load and some med schools only look at years where you had completely full corse load.

I doubt you can drop without academic penalty at this point and failing will seriously impact your overall GPA. Work your butt off for the final and possibly talk to the prof about what you can do to salvage the course.
