Why do so many people take organic chemistry?

Why are so many people enrolling in this course? most of the ontario universities do not need it as a pre requisite.

It's a program requirement for many people, and a pre requisite for certain courses than may also be program requirements. (eg. at UTSC, Biochemistry requires Orgo I and II as prereqs)

There are plenty of med schools outside of Ontario that require it, and you need to know it for the MCAT.

and yea you need to know it for MCAT... I enjoyed organic chem.... what i did not enjoy was inorganic chem

Same, organic chem was a million times better than general chem.

Well, you do need organic for the MCAT. More or less. The answer is a little simpler, though: Because premeds think they need to take organic for med school. It's the same reason many of them take calculus in first year. I couldn't count the number of times when I was a calc TA that I was asked whether they needed the course for med school.

They stopped doing a preq average (counting it separately from your cGPA) but you still need to take their preq courses.

also many of the standard premed programs - biomed, biochemistry, chemistry and many more have requirement for second chemistry or actually require organic

it's awesome.

and it's on the MCAT.

and my program required it.

 

then again, i took bio-organic chemistry for fun since i had such a great time on organic chem.
