Surgical Interviews

Recommended Posts

RedDevil,

Could you share if you recieved an invite or rejection?

Haven't heard back from u of t either.

I received an invite. I just know they send regrets as well from what the CARMS site says and what past residents have told me. It was a personal invite, with your name at the top.

Regarding the intent to withdraw -

The Royal College requires that all of the issues that they listed as

deficiencies in their survey must be corrected by the next external

review in 2 years.

Please know that the University of Ottawa/Ottawa Hospital has every

intention of passing our next review. Many of the issues have already

been resolved. Any remaining issues are being addressed and we expect

full approval at our next review. Our General Surgery program has many

great qualities, including having all of our PGY-5s pass their exams for

the last 6 years. We specialize in Minimally Invasive Surgery and our

residents get significant practice in it throughout their residency in

the OR and in our state-of-the-art skills lab.

All programs have issues - having "intent to withdraw" from the Royal

College ensures that we will make the necessary changes to make our

program outstanding.

If you are interested in meeting any of the residents or the new Program

Director, Dr. Fady Balaa, while you are doing your elective, I would be

happy to arrange it.

I hope this helps to put you more at ease for CaRMS.

So when they say University of Ottawa/Ottawa Hospital, does that mean that this applies to all post-grad programs there?

Now that invites are done,i thought to transition the thread on to interview talk to help alleviate some anxiety and answer some unknowns :P ..... do people know good resources for interview questions? formats? or demographics in terms of numbers interview etc...

for example to get it started ive heard that u of t interview roughly 60-70 ppl for their 11 spots..

Sounds about right. Ottawa interviewed around 8 IMGs for their single spot.
