olecranon
Does anybody know what the deal is with this specialty? Is it competitive? There is a post that says jobs are hard to come by but can't you just do private practice and bill FFS?
cheech10
Not competitive, generally, although there are very few spots/training programs, so even a bit of increased interest could make things competitive. As for jobs, anyone can open their own practice, but to see patients and bill the provincial insurance plan for them, any specialist needs a written referral/consulatation request. I'm not sure there is a huge pool of patients that are waiting to be seen by an allergist that one could tap into. AFAIK, most allergists do something else (IM or peds) with allergy on the side.
