leviathan
Pimping is bad teaching. Actually, its not teaching at all. It's arbitrary testing. Depends what you consider pimping. Pimping to me is asking someone obscure stuff that has no educational value just to make the 'pimper' sound smart. If you quiz someone about important stuff, you give them a chance to show their knowledge, and you don't belittle someone by teaching something they already knew. Some questions in IM that seem to come up all the time: indications for dialysis differential + workup for hyponatremia Early goal directed therapy for sepsis Antimicrobials for different types of pneumonia (CAP outpt vs inhospital vs hospital acquired etc)
Madz25
to add to the list: charcot's triad reynolds pentad causes of AGMA layers of the abdominal wall approach to edema ECGs are easy to pimp on (eg. S1Q3T3 for PE) tx of UTI vs pyelonephritis approach to acute renal failure SIRS criteria ...that's all I can think of for now.
