Great volunteer experiences

Hey everyone..

 

I'd like to hear about places or organizations you've volunteered for where you REALLY enjoyed what you did. I volunteer with two organizations right now, but I'm looking for something that would feel REALLY fulfilling, eye-opening and enjoyable.

I volunteered at numerous places before this year (children's centre, hospital ER, nursing home) and though they were all really great experiences, at times there wasn't too much for me to do, or much that i was allowed to do independently where i could take initiative due to clearly defined 'volunteer roles' (that don't interfere with union rules, etc.).

Since sept. i've been volunteering on the crisis line at a distress centre and it is the best and most fulfilling volunteering i've done. They gave really great training (~30 hours) and it feels worthwhile. I really enjoy listening and speaking with the callers and i would highly recomend a similar volunteer job if you can get one.
