Does it make a difference which Canadian medical school you attend?

To be a clinician it really doesn't matter. Now as people have stated if you were to apply for a managerial role then it's more about who you know/connections. Obviously these are greater at schools like McGill and UofT. I also second the fact that if you do plan on going international then school name does matter although both UofT and McGill aren't held to super high esteem, although they do know of them, unlike many other schools. When I was in Boston I did a tour of Harvard and they mentioned how McGill and UofT are the only big name schools in Canada which surprised me.

I would be incredibly grateful if I got in at either UBC or U of T, and even that might not be possible this year. However, if one day I somehow get to choose between the two, UBC vs. U of T for goal becoming a specialist?

you'll have equal chances

I am not speaking from experience, as I don't know. But all Medical Schools in Canada are great. Either way, you are going to get an incredible education and from there.. what you do AFTER your schooling (using schooling as in; IN School ..as doctors are lifetime students) is more important.

You may get a "better" education at a certain school (I think it is snotty to assume so) but I don't think this really has any say in terms of if you're staying in Canada. It is more of a prissy, pompous mentality than anything. What makes UoT more special than McMaster or Dalhousie?

Personally, I think I would be more interested in attending a University like MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY just on the fact that they keep the tuition fee's down and have a higher gpa. Why wouldn't you want to be apart of a University that stands for good morals? As in.."Work your butt off in school and we will help with the tuition costs." That speaks volumes more to me than having a "prestigious" university degree hanging on the wall behind me in my office.

As for if you expect to go out of the country, ..you may want to consider a school that is more popular globally. McMaster, McGill, UoT &c.

Cheers,
