Applying for OGS

How does this work? Do you need to apply before even choosing which program you will be attending at each University or after accepting? I know that Queen's does it automatically, but it seems a huge hassle if I had to apply for the OGS without even knowing what school I'm going to or which program.

I think you already missed the dates for OGS for the other two schools (UT and Western?). They were due end of Jan?

 

But yes, you apply for OGS even if you may not be accepted at that school lol

Queens and McMaster consider you automatically for it.

But otherwise yeah the deadline for September entry was back in January. I suppose if you get accepted you can then apply next January for second year? I believe the length of the award (1 vs 2 years) is given in the offer letter.

I didn't even know I had to apply for it so early either

I also find it strange that McMaster considers you automatically for it, since the OGS application requires reference letters, an essay, prior awards/publication/research experience, etc..and the McMaster OT application received none of those things.

Well they have reference letters kind of from the ORPAS application. I don't know how much of the research experience would come from there. Good to know then.

I was referring to the reference letters you had each reference fill out for ORPAS in general. My understanding was they went to ORPAS and any school that needed them would use them (and that all would?)

Only Queens and UofT needed reference letters, so if you were applying to the other schools you wouldn't need to bother with getting references at all.

Also, I think ORPAS will only forward them to the schools that will use them in the applications.

Mac doesn't ask for reference letters! The formula for who gets admitted is a combination of GPA and interview score, they don't ask for any additional essays or letters!

At least for Mac, they could base you off your interview for OGS. They do it somehow and it has to work somehow, otherwise they would change their process so we did need to include references.
