Sterilization of developmentally delayed patients

Hello everyone,

 

I was wondering what the legalities are regarding sterilization of mentally retarded patients. It is my understanding that this request is granted on a case by case basis (E.g. parents of an individual with MR are afraid of their child being taken advantage) in Ontario. I learnt this information from a psychiatrist and the documents I've found on the net support this. Does anyone have any other information with which they could kindly enlighten me?
