Pt/ot Immunization Requirements

Recommended Posts

ORPAS states:

Upon admission, students are required to obtain and provide up-to-date documentation of immunizations, including 2-step TB, varicella, measles/mumps/rubella (MMR), pertussis, tetanus/diphtheria, polio and flu vaccinations. All medical requirements are mandatory. Medical and non-medical requirements need to be updated during the second year of the program. Without the required immunizations and documentation, students may/will be unable to obtain the necessary clinical placements for successful graduation from the MPT program.

Can you still participate in practicum if you do not get the flu shot? Which schools will let you participate if you do not get the flu shot?

In Ontario, the flu shot is not mandatory for health care providers as indicated by the health ontario website http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/pro/programs/publichealth/flu/healthcareworkers.aspx

I suggest you try contacting the universities you're interested in applying to and ask.  At uOttawa we have to get the flu shot every November and the reasoning is that most clinical placements require you to have your flu shot.  While it's not mandatory for health care providers to get the flu shot, clinic owners/hospitals can insist on it.

If you can't get the flu shot due to medical reasons, there might be a way to accommodate you. But you would have to ask the universities, since I am not sure how that would work.

Best of luck!
