3.84 vs 3.8 cGPA

Recommended Posts

Mac is pretty straightforward: 32% GPA, 32% CARS, 32% CASPer pre-interview.

Post interview it is:

  • 70% Multiple Mini Interview Score
  • 15% Undergraduate Grade Point Average
  • 15% CARS

Obviously it's going to help somewhat. How much depends on your other stats as well as how competitive the applicant pool is that year. So how much it matters is fairly well impossible to determine. Mac lists admissions stats annually so you can get a sense of the GPA spread: http://mdprogram.mcmaster.ca/md-program-admissions/how-we-select

Personally don't think a 3.84 vs. a 3.8 makes any difference. You can get in with either. Hell, people have even gotten in with a 3.6 before. What makes a differences is a 131 vs. a 127 in CARS, doing well on CASPER, and having a good interview.

McMaster is super transparent about their stats and selection model.  Every year around 5-6 people make it in with a GPA below 3.5.  http://mdprogram.mcmaster.ca/docs/default-source/admissions/classof2020.pdf?sfvrsn=2.  A poster on this forum got in with a 3.3.  That being said, OP, if GPA is your strongest point, McMaster might not be your best bet.
