1 - all Canadian schools are good

5 - doesn’t mean squat in Canada. See 1

My understanding is that 3 is pretty much self driven everywhere.

Someone else will have to chime in for 2 and 4. What makes the most sense is going to where you will personally succeed most, which usually means proximity to social supports. Barring that, going where you have an idea where you might want to end up and have good networking opportunities helps. Ottawa will be the bigger city/less college town-y so depends what you’re striving for.

Hands down I'd pick Ottawa. Much better choices for housing, a great city with lots of activities (capital of canada!), and minutes from Quebec City (great city!!). Incredible multi-cultural city with activities, food and community you will not find in Kingston.

Also Ottawa has world renowned research and loaded with sub-specialty specialists that you would not find elsewhere except University of Toronto.

Many hospitals in Ottawa for you to have a much more diverse experience with clinical and shadowing.

Ottawa medical school is on its own (not nearby university of Ottawa) attached to the medical hospital.

I love ottawa and have been there many many times. I love that city!

First of all, Quebec city is not close to Ottawa (4.5hr drive). Ottawa is an ok city and has some nice things to do (I did undergrad there), but as a city, I love Kingston way more. Queen’s and the surrounding area is awesome and you are close to so many bodies of water. Kingston is also 2hr away from Ottawa, Toronto and 3h away from Montreal. You are also 45 minutes away from the states.

In terms of sub-specialty, there is more to offer in Ottawa, but I would argue that is unimportant as a medical student.

Something that is unique to Queen’s that I don’t think is emphasized enough is that every clinician is on a alternative funding model and are salaried. What this means as a learner is that their salary is not affected by letting you take the time to go through a full history/physical and also allows them time to teach around the case which isn’t always as prevalent at other academic centres.

You likely will not have the chance to pick between the 2 if you do get a waitlist offer as they wont hit at the same time.  You will take whichever one is offered first.   Both are fabulous choices.   Have you not already had to accept and pay at McGill ?
