Is it possible to do a plus 1 in sports med (CARMS match), and then do a fellowship year the following cycle in hospitalist medicine (not through CARMS) so that you are dual certified to do both inpatient work and MSK focus outpatient work?

Sure, why wouldn’t it be? Depending on where you are you also do not need to do a fellowship to do hospitalist - many people here do it just by making connections on rotations/electives during residency. Some of the sports meds docs do ortho hospitalist specifically which seems like a good gig.

you don't need a +1 to work as a hospitalist. If you plan to do so I would recommend you try and arrange as many inpatient rotations in residencyas possible and try to get at least 1 block of ICU under your belt.
