redbeanbun
Hi guys, I'm a recently engaged M3 and originally wanted to plan my wedding for summer 2024, but due to time constraint/venue availability, it'd be a lot easier to plan for a later date, aka after I've started residency likely in my R1 year. My question is about how accommodating residency programs would be in ensuring you get time off for your wedding? Ofc I'd know the date well in advance before I even start my residency and can let admin know right away, but still I've heard horror stories of people requesting time off very early but not hearing back from the scheduling people for a long time and then end up not having their time off approved anyway. Idk what I'd do if that scenario happens so I'm wondering if it's just a bad idea to plan for your wedding during residency.. If it makes a difference, I'm hoping to pursue IM in Ontario. Thanks in advance!
bearded frog
If you know 6m+ in advance and they know it's your wedding it should not be an issue.
rmorelan
yeah with IM in particular you should be ok! You have to be a really cruel as a program not to make that work.
