Will a version of in-person interviews return?

To say I'd be upset about this would be a bit of an understatement. I don't really understand why you also need in-person interviews now that visiting electives are back. Statistically, 80+% will match to one of their top 4-5 choices, programs you foreseeably would do electives at pre-CaRMs which gives a far better chance to experience a program for 2+ weeks than a brief interview. 

Nevermind the climate, financial, and logistical challenges. 

It wouldn't surprise me if the point of this is to show overwhelming support for videoconference interviews, as already noted:

I agree the goal of asking that questions is probably to show support for video conferencing over anything else.
