Accepted/Rejected/Waitlisted??? (for current applicants)

Hang in there Alastriss. I got initially waitlisted as well. But at the next call-in date, I got accepted. And my stats are weaker than your's. Wayne's acceptance pool is very fluid for Canadians and other OOSer's. People are constantly being accepted and subsequently withdrawing once they find something cheaper. So, new spots keep opening up before and after May 15. Moreover, they still haven't filled up the class yet.

I think this is probably it.

Looking at how many Canadians have been accepted to Wayne on pm101 alone...I wouldn't be surprised if they're approaching their OOS quota for the class. Of course a lot of people are going to withdraw once they get other acceptances, but they wanted to play it safe and only accept you once they're sure they'll have a spot.

Hey Alastriss,

From reading the Wayne thread on SDN, it does not seem like many people got accepted this call-in date.

As previous posters have suggested, Wayne might have accepted too many OOS by now and have started waitlisting remaining interviewees. The OOS wait list will move quite a bit in the summer due 2 main factors: (1) Canadians that have been accepted may get into Canadian med schools on May 15th or later in the summer off Cdn. wait lists, (2) US OOS applicants getting into their IS schools or other cheaper US schools since Wayne is the most expensive school in the US for OOS.

Keep your chin up and don't lose hope, you've got great numbers and are bound to get in somewhere sometime! This is my 3rd application cycle and I am aware of the psychological toll it takes on one!

Hey Alastriss,

As far as Wayne State, I'm pretty sure you got waitlisted because they've probably already initially filled the class. I interviewed in like September and got in right away but you have a better gpa and better mcat than me (not that that's the only thing that matters but still...). I haven't withdrawn from there yet but I very likely will so the waitlist will definitely move. Keep your head up!!! it's not over 'til it's over:o

I got rejected from northwestern. Which is fine, since i Did not SUBMIT MY SECONDARY! way back in august I had family coming from the US and passed up on the deadline, so I didn't bother. Anyways I got an e-mail saying my application was "carefully considered", There is a thread going on with some hilarious rejections, check it out sometime guys.

PS thanks for the encouraging words everyone, I really do appreciate the sentiment.

But that goes against their policy!!! Unless they've changed it?

Well if this is true - take heed for the upcoming cycle you lurkers. Apply early and interview early.

Alastriss, again - keep the updates headed their way. Call them, try and see if you can set up an appointment with Dr. Norman, do whatever it takes to make them believe that you are serious and really want to get in. I'm rootin for ya!!

I got into Jefferson!

It really is a nice relief.

Last June when I was applying, I remember myself thinking how I might have an acceptance by October 15th...

lol, what a humbling process this has been.

Classic, have you decided on a school yet?

Yeah, Jefferson was great. I've had my best interview experience there. The student interviewer and I went to eat waffles for the interview, so I was eating the whole time and that was a good distraction. And the faculty interviewer really seemed to like me, which never really happens to me, so that was good.

As for the school, I felt like it was similar to any other schools that I've interviewed at. I like the high pass/pass/fail and also that there are usually only morning lectures and you get the afternoon off. And Jefferson supposedly gives you a solid clinical training probably because of the HOPE free clinic experience. But all of these points usually apply to most US medical schools, so Jefferson did really feel similar to other schools. Probably the only difference is that Jefferson isn't strong in research. During the interview, they told me that research opportunities are available if you want to do it. It's different from some of the other schools where research is intergrated into the curriculum. I'm not too sure about doing research during med school at this point, so it's not too big of a factor for me. Philadelphia was a bit different than I had imagined. I thought it was much a bigger city. Maybe it just gave me that impression because the streets were so narrow.

Congratulations to you too on all your acceptances, Classic!

I guess you'll be analyzing and weighing your options for the whole month.
