McGill science majors?

I'm thinking about applying to med school. I'm currently in U0 at McGill but I'm not sure what undergrad major to choose. Here are my potential choices:

1. Anatomy & cell-biology: said to be the easiest major

2. Biochemistry: notoriously hard, but more useful than anatomy in case if i don't get into med school (personally, i think that there are far less jobs related with anatomy than biochem)

3. Biology: don't know too much about this one

Should I risk getting a lower GPA and go with Biochem? Or go into Anatomy and Biology instead?

Any advice / help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Do what is for you very interesting.... Otherwise you won't get good marks..

Do not forget that a first grade degree in biological sciences (what ever, bio, anatomy or biochemistry) can lead you to second grade of another.

So, if you really like Biochemistry, do this...even if it's harder...

If cell biology is equal or more interesting for you, do this... easier and after you can always do an Msc in biochemistry if you wish..

hope it helps

Guys, do you know how hard Pharmacology is if compared to other majors? (In General, of course. I know that if you like your major, you will have better grades etc).

I don't know how is pharmacology in McGill...

I did 2 yr in pharmacolgy at UdeS.... it wasnt easy but very interesting... you see a lot a cell signaling, biochemistry, drug patway, pharmacocinetic and pharmacodynamic. It's kind of a specialised program of cell biology related with drugs...

For me that was the best 2nd option after medschool... by far..

I like the biochem or biology courses. It's the org chem and the analytical chem that alarm me cuz I heard that they're one of the hardest science courses.

But if you're in a "harder" major like biochem that yields a generally lower GPA than anatomy, does med schools actually take that into consideration? Say if you have a 4.0 in an easy arts major compared to a 3.5 GPA in a hardcore competitive science major, does that make any difference?

It's a good question...actually I dont know if McGill take this in consideration..

I know that UdeM and U Laval does.. and that UdeS doesnt.

My only fear with biochemistry and the possibilty to go in medschool after is that the cohort are not big... something like 15-20 at the beginning and 10-12 at the end.... so it is very hard to stand out ( because what ever is you're GPA, you always have to compare it to the average)...

I would chose if possible a program with at leat 50 persons at the beginning.

Analytical chem lab is very hard !

The lab average is around 50% I think. Two of my medp friends are actually taking this class and they've complained a lot about the labs.

more over... biochem got a lot of inorganic chem and chimico-physic courses...wich I would personnaly hate ! :P

That's what I was thinking too.:) But if I go into anatomy, for grad school , could I still do pharmacology or dental school? Cuz anatomy itself it pretty narrow...
