Curriculum Renewal

http://cr.med.ubc.ca/

that's the site for the curriculum renewal process.

i'm assuming that everything is up for a change. the way the information is delivered, the focus of the pre-clerkship years, the method of grading (ie p/f/h), testing methods... it could go anywhere from there.

http://cr.med.ubc.ca/2011/01/21/itfcr-working-group-structure/

that talks about the working groups and outlines what kind of stuff they will be discussing... it looks like delivery methods is a focus group....

http://cr.med.ubc.ca/about-2/people/

is a list of the people involved....

so, my guess is- everything is on the table, but i doubt huge changes will go into effect.

i'm not sure if that fits as curriculum renewal, but it would be nice to have the ceremony. it seems like a lot of people look at it as a right of passage.

it is just a white coat... but it's the first white coat on our path...

UBC Pharm has a whitecoat ceremony. It was nice -> although I'm really not looking forward to going back to those silly waist-length coats. They look ridiculous.

but mav, they are fashion forward... i mean, because of the short length we will be able to wear them out to dinner, we won't trip on them... they won't make your legs look really short, or your torso look really long... and who wants to look like they have a long torso.

Valid argument... but they do kind of look dorky! It's like riding a bike with training wheels, sure that's where you start, but the kids without training wheels look so much more cool!

That's what all they guys at work were trying to convince me to wear to the interview :P After all, you should dress for the job you want, not the job you have!!!

haha hopefully you'll get in, become an interview, and then you can wear all that and watch the funny looks from nervous interviewees. It will look like you ran there from the hospital.

  • 1 month later...

Hey,

Just wondering if anyone knows what changes are being considered for the UBC curriculum and when these changes would be introduced. And if you don't know, does anyone know when the renewal process is going to be completed by? In other words, will we know what changes are going to be made before may 13th?

Thanks,

-Jake

Jake,

You already created s curriculum renewal thread. It's on page 2 of this forum...

I'd link to it, but I'm on my phone and can't be bothered to copy the link.

I thought so but couldn't find it! Oops, mod delete this! Thanks Hking!

But if anyone knows anything new, put it on the old thread please :)

I think I posted this link before, but whatever.

From what I understand the curriculum renewal will take place over 3-5 years... So, we'll be gone before the new curriculum is fully implemented (assuming of course that we get in this year). It looks like they are still in the early stages of defining what they want to change...
