UofT Interview Invites/Regrets (2013)

Well that's depressing.

 

Result: Rejection

Format: Email (2:01 pm)

cGPA: 3.74

MCAT: PS, VR, BS, WS - 13, 11, 15, R (39R)

Essays: Didn't put much effort into them, I was really sick of the application by that point

Year: 3rd year undergrad

 

Format: Email (2:02 pm)

Result: Rejected

GPA: 3.70

MCAT: PS, VR, BS, WS - 10, 10, 13, Q (33Q)

 

4th year undergrad - OOP

 

Dang I was really hoping for this one, but I knew it was a long shot :(

 

Result: Rejection

Format: Email (2:06 pm)

cGPA: 3.7

MCAT: 31N

Essays: Felt really good about them.

Year: Completed UG

 

reeeeeejected.

 

cGPA: 3.67

wGPA: 3.88

MCAT: 30Q - 10, 10, 10

essays: felt great about them.

ECs: fairly extensive.

 

Result: Rejection

Essays: Felt good alright about them

Year: 3rd year applicant

Essays: I thought it went well

Year: 3rd year undergrad

Essays: Put lots of time and personal touches

Year: current course based masters (2nd semester)

ECs: volunteered at a cancer clinic for 3 years, inpatient for 1 year, medical translation for people in my community (English translation), relay for life committee, Sunday school teacher in my community for 3 years

MCAT: 11/11/12/S (34S) - PS/VR/BS/WS

ECs: Standard volunteering + research + leadership (Really nothing special imo)

Essays: Worked pretty hard on these to figure out how to stand out.

Year: 4th year Undergrad

IP/OOP: OOP (Alberta)

really wasn't expecting this, especially so early but

 

TIME STAMP: 11:13am Feb 1st

Result: Invite, email from Leslie Taylor

cGPA: 3.72

wGPA: 3.91

MCAT: PS, VR, BS, WS - 11, 14, 14, Q (39Q)

ECs: I've always thought they were slightly below average, some research (no pubs), volunteering, couple of exec positions, various customer service jobs, currently work as a research tech

Essays: I put a lot of effort in and really tried to tailor them to the traits we were asked to discuss

Year: completed UG last year currently working

IP (live in Toronto)

ECs: Student council UG and Grad, TON of research experience (4 pubs) from 2nd year undergrad onwards, community volunteering...not much else.

Essays: Skewed towards graduate work, and well prepared.

What is the first letter of your last name? I'm curious if they are reviewing grad files alphabetically, or not.

Essays: I put a bit of work into them but probably no better than average.

I remember calling OMSAS because one of my references hadn't reached them yet and they said they send the applications on in batches because some people have all of their stuff completed much earlier and so they send those along right away so they're not sending a gigantic batch all at once. Maybe the applications that they sent at the beginning are being reviewed first? Just a guess since there doesn't seem to be another order (e.g. in/out of province, last name, etc.).
