Monster
yes. yes I am. Those are crappy odds though..it says 8 spots on their website so I wonder why they dropped it. lol are you just saying that so you can grab my spot? If I go, it might help me for future interviews, as well as be a fun travelling experience altogether. Last time I was in the maritimes I was only about 3 years old. imagine
yes. yes I am. Those are crappy odds though..it says 8 spots on their website so I wonder why they dropped it. It says "approximate" on the site. It would have been much nicer to have 8 spots, that way I wouldn't even need to think about this.
Monster
haha..yeah I know it says approximate. But 4 is 50% of 8...approximate should be like 7...not HALF.

amixofmisfit
Hi Imagine, In my class at MUN we have 5 OOP student; out of those 5 I believe 3 were waitlisted and than got accepted. It makes sense that MUN would run through the waitlist quickly because OOP students probably get accepted in their home provinces. I'm guessing if there are between 4-8 spots for OOP than the waitlist would be around at least 15 (maybe even more). I believe you have a pretty good shot at getting in as an OOP now that you have an interview Best of luck! AMM
Monster
I haven't gotten anything:( I'm sure they could easily notify all OOPs in a day:( d'oh
Typical Premed
I'm an OOP from Ontario and I found out I got a voice message from Memorial admisiions office today. Does this likely mean an invite?

Does this likely mean an invite? Errr... no, just forget about it! Probably wrong number! . Jk, it's probably good news. No point in them calling to reject you when they could easily send an email or snail mail.

imagine
For the students who've gotten into MUN from OOP, what do you see as the advantages to MUN? Why should one choose MUN over an Ontario school if they had the choice?

NLengr
For the students who've gotten into MUN from OOP, what do you see as the advantages to MUN? Why should one choose MUN over an Ontario school if they had the choice? I'm not OOP, but most people say the advantage of MUN is small class sizes, lots of face time with specialists, strong clinical medicine education and lots of clerkship responsibility. MUN is an excellent school in which to learn how to be an excellent clinician. Research is gaining an expanded role at MUN (but no where near what you would see at UBC, UofT McGill etc.) the prime focus is still on turning out top of the line clinicians (which it does extremely well). I usually tell people that if your focus is on becoming the best clinical physician you can be than MUN is for you. If you are focused on a career in research primarily, then it may not be your best option, although there are emerging opportunities, particularly wrt genetic stuff. imagine
Called back the admissions office today and got an invite for an interview on March 6! Lucky! That date would have been great for me. I faxed them a letter today asking them to defer if possible. I'm anxious to hear their answer. NLengr: thanks for the info, sounds like a great school to consider. Even though I'm very interested in research, small class size sounds extremely attractive. I'm in a similar boat, Imagine. My interview is scheduled for Mar 6 but I have to be in Ontario for an interview and can't possibly make it. When was yours scheduled for? Maybe we could "switch"! see-those-stars
So it looks like I won't be able to interview at MUN. The only dates they can offer me an interview clash with the two other interviews I have scheduled already. *sigh* I guess this is a sign that it's not meant to be? whale.of.a.time
I wonder if they'll ever put me out of my misery and just reject me already... The schools that call people one by one over months are completely sadistic.

w8kg6
that's you and me both, astudentis. I haven't seen you much since the interview, you should PM me how you thought it went (in case you haven't figured out who I am yet, I'll give you a hint: I was one of the few engineers at the interview, and I was in your biocomp class last fall). barcelona
hey imagine, did you get the sense that march 6th and feb 27 were the last two interview dates as they couldn't offer you anything later than the 6th? i have an interview on the 6th, but i also have one in ontario around that time...so i was possibly thinking of getting it rescheduled. barca
