mosby
I heard through a friend that a student in one of the Alberta programs was just pulled out of their CaRMS match by their school after failing several exams and is being made to repeat a year. Is this something that happens often?
future_doc
Sounds uncommom but it is not the end of the world.
rmorelan
I heard through a friend that a student in one of the Alberta programs was just pulled out of their CaRMS match by their school after failing several exams and is being made to repeat a year. Is this something that happens often? Academic failure is rare but if it occurs then this is what would happen - sounds pretty serious to me actually(?) in any reapplication the student will now have remediation noted on their transcript. That will restrict things during a reapplication phase. If you make it to the 4th year most people are able to academically finish the degree. Lactic Folly
Haven't heard of any such instances before. There are people who have left after 1-2 years of medical school for whatever reason, but to go through the CaRMS match...
Complacent Tragedy
Firstly, CO2 field's isn't a horrible life. Secondly, I broke and ended up leaving medical school for 3 years. And a handful of friends left too. Still matched, some to competitive.
A-Stark
I'm also not sure the concept makes that much sense, as for something like anesthesia, where you get to do in-house call more or less forever and frequently get about five minutes of unscheduled time for lunch and/or bathroom breaks. On the other hand, IM subspecialties like geriatrics, rheumatology, endocrinology, and infectious diseases all offer pretty comfortable lifestyles and incomes. Robin Hood
Dude, this sucks. Sorry to say your friend is probably going to be relegated to the CO2 fields. What's a CO2 field?
ellorie
What's a CO2 field? One where, as they say, if you can produce CO2, you can match to it. Pathology, psychiatry (where I am probably very happily headed), family medicine.
