How are you guys filing your taxes?

 

MD Financial is offering to do our 'simple' taxes for free and charging for any added complexities. Would you recommend them?

I've always used UFile (free for students) with no difficulties. Tax returns for most residents are pretty straightforward.

I use a CGA whose practice centers around medical professionals and small businesses. I used to do my own, but things have gotten complex and it's worth the $180 bucks (both because I don't have to deal with the headache, and he's saved me more than that per year).

Studiotax, free to download/use. I've used it for years, even did my returns once I was practicing with it (until I incorporated). Still use it for my personal returns, which are really simple after incorporation.

Btw, with our current income as residents (i.e. more than 55K), are we expected to get tax credit from our rent? When I entered my yearly rent (~11K), it didn't impact the amount I got back.

So I called CRA to ask about the rent credit. Apparently, they have changed the way you get credit for your rent/property tax. Instead of getting a tax credit when you file your taxes, Ontario will give you monthly refunds if they think that you qualify to the rent/property tax credit.
