orangeman
Hi everyone, This is mostly out of curiosity...what do medical schools ask when they contact my referees? Do they ask any personal questions or are they more general "how many hours has the individual contributed etc"? If you're not extremely close with your referees (personal level), but have only worked with them for a significant amount of time is that acceptable for a referee? Thanks guys! rebeib
Usually just standard stuff, like your political preferences, religious affiliations, race. Nothing out of the ordinary, really.
orangeman
Also was curious as to what happens if your referee is not available at the time they call (some of my referees are in different time zone).
Bambi
They are only verifiers for hours devoted and responsibilities. They are not referees.

I think ucalgary is a 10-15 minute call with referees. So I'm wondering what they ask then.

insomnias
You're conflating referees and verifiers. A referee is someone who speaks to your character. In the case of USask, they ask for 3 referees with whom they'll speak for 10-15 minutes and ask about your character. A verifier is someone who speaks to whether you actually did something or not. Oh cool. So USask's standard procedure is to call your referees and talk for 10-15 mins about your character. Anybody know if the other schools - like Ontario schools, Alberta schools, and so on, do that too? Haven't heard much about this to be honest.
