Canadian Hospitals

Recommended Posts

Major hospitals are typically constant works-in-progress -- with new wings/towers going up over time. I don't know of any major university hospitals that have had recent "ribbon cuttings" for the whole institution, but many (probably all?) have had new bits and pieces open in the last decade.

Which universities in Canada have the most recent tertiary hospitals where the buildings were recently built?

I'm weirdly into hospital stuff, from what I know theres been a few, but the big ones (not necessarily all teaching hospitals or 500+ beds) are:

1. McGill Health Sciences Centre - McGill

2. Humber River Hospital - community for Toronto and Queens

3. Oakville-Trafalgar Hospital - community McMaster

4. Calgary South Health Campus - UofC

5. Women's College Hospital - UofT

St. Michael's (UofT) is doing a 3.0 new tower and revamp. Juravinski (McMaster) is essentially 2/3rds brand new, they expanded significantly. Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital is being built as well.

Big teaching hospital projects coming up in the next 10 years.

1. New St. Paul's Hospital - UBC

2. New Ottawa Civic Hospital - UOttawa

3. New McMaster Women's and Children's Hospital - McMaster

South Health Campus is the nicest hospital I've ever been to!

What are they going to do with Mac? MUMC isn't that old really.

I honestly don't know, I agree that it is curious, they say the current MUMC is too small but it certainly does not seem to be. They do say they want to relocate it next to HGH. As to what will happen to the building itself I think it will likely be taken over by the university but I do not know how they will make use of it. It isn't the prettiest building but I'm sure they can find some use for it.

South Health is beautiful indeed, but quite far from downtown Calgary.

I think Mac needs a new EMR, not a new building.

Tell me about it. And if you are going to invest in a new hospital... Hamilton has 3 adult hospitals with bed spacing issues 24/7, why build a new MUMC when beds sit empty in the current one...
