  1. For anyone skeptical of waitlists, I just got an invite offer for McMaster psychiatry! The lists are moving.
  2. Wow. So in this CARMS tour, we might theoretically be competing for 2 Calgary Psych spots? Just give me my rejection notice already xD
  3. Re: Calgary Psych. On their program description, they wrote “Out of approximately 150-160 applications, historically 45 applicants are interviewed. For the February/March 2021 interview period, it has not yet been determined if changes will alter this number.” I think they might have sent out the 45 invites on Feb 17, now they are making a final decision onto if they will expand that number or waitlist the rest. Just speculation!
  4. Same... I’ve heard of people getting invites but I just have no updates from them on CARMS - no rejection, no wait list.
  5. Now that Miss Corona has crashed the market, would you guys invest a small portion of your LOC? By the time we graduate or become attendings, its certain that the market would be in a better position than it is now... what do you guys think?
  6. Result: Accepted! Time stamp; 7:28 AM wGPA: 3.91 Stream: French (Salut à tout mes francophones, wut wut!) Geography: Ottawa EC: Longterm hospital volunteer, pianist, singer, volunteer at my church. 1 year of cancer research, 1 NSERC. Cultural awards. Visible minority (if that even matters) Current year: 3rd but graduating - idk I had credits. Interview: Felt good-ok about the ethical situations. I was so nervous, nearly tripped off the chairs. The panel felt a little indifferent. Went a few minutes over xD I'm still in disbelief haha Congrats to everyone who got an offer and lachez-pas, ceux qui attendent encore sur la list d'attente!
  8. Very informative! Might I add that of the 450 french applicants that apply, only about 270 are actually above the academic cut-off (Meaning, 180 apply with a GPA below 3.70 and are automatically removed from the race). Of the 270, they offer 90 interviews (33% chance to receive an interview). The odds for french applicants are ridiculously high. I received these stats from attending an info session at the uOttawa Medical school, so I'm pretty certain of these numbers.
  9. Vice-dean of admission and some other renowned prof at uottawa that seems to be a guru at uottawa med school applications (PM if you'd like to know their names lol)
  10. Nah, I'm actually positive CASPers is solely for the interview invite.
  11. Invite!! Date Stamp: 24/01/2017 - 03:25 PM Location: Ottawa region Stream: French wGPA: 3.91 Current year: 4th ECs: idk I'll fill it later Casper: Was ok
  12. I recommend Biomed as I find that in comparison it is a very flexible and holistic program. There are tons of research opportunities and tons of electives for you to truly personalize your program (e.g. gear it towards physics, chemistry, biology, health-sciences, law, heck even music or a pot-pourri of every faculty). The courses in science, though very interesting, are not easy and are objectively more time consuming than those in health-sciences simply because of labs and heaviness of the material. That is the main drawback, you may or may not have as much time as a H-S student for extra-curriculars/volunteering. As for keeping a competitive average for med school in Biomed, it's very possible (i'm a living testimony ) to a point that it is the program in the whole university with the largest portion of students placed on the Dean's list every year (cGPA above 8.5/10). At the end of the day, it all comes down to what you love - HS = Social sciences with a little bit of sciences or BM = Sciences with a little bit of social sciences. You'll excel in what you love!
