benhc911
I just received an email from the RBC LOC representative in the West. One of the ways that west is best is that we get a cash signing bonus, which wasn't offered to the east previously (of course I'm largely joking and wouldn't recommend deciding on a campus based on $500). Anyways, I've copy pasted the email below. Yes this is self serving as there is a referral bonus, but I haven't put my name here, so you don't have to mention me if you don't want me to get money... that said I like money... so if you want me to have money from a big corporation at no cost to you, you can PM me for my name... I'll donate 20% of it to the Canadian Cancer Society. Otherwise, I recommend finding a friend at NOSM and getting their name... its like a gift of $100 to them from RBC - yay. I have removed Ann's contact from the copy paste so that she doesn't get spammed by bots, and removed some of the bulk of it to reduce the TLDR of it. ... Be sure to let the incoming students know **** for 1st year Thunder Bay NOSM students that set up on RBC Medical School program *** RBC will provide them with a $500 congrats/welcome to RBC bonus. ... RBC Medical School Program: $250,000 line of credit at prime rate. Full limit can be made available upon approval or if student wishes, we can set annual limit for them No fee student bank account $5,000 RBC visa Specialized account management with RBC Health Care Specialist /edit for clarification/ On the west campus, you get $500 for signing, the referring individual gets $100 - thats what this post is about On the east campus, you get $0 for signing, the referring individual gets $500 - to my understanding
rural_roots
Thanks for the headsup! If I get the news I want to hear May 13, do you know, roughly, how long it takes to get the LOC after you walk in to the bank with your acceptance letter? In a perfect world I'd like to quit my job and take the summer off. RR

RR not certain, but I'll forward your request and post the reply here The reply I got was: The process is I send in for a credit approval - which doesn't take much time at all (a few days). We can make the loc available once the conditions of letter of acceptance have been met, and NOSM or whatever university they are going to is able to provide a confirmation of enrollment. (plus some small talk about how I'm in 4th year now and time flies etc haha)
Chamilt
Well.....East also gets the bonus now. So PM me if you want to give me 500 bucks. haha I'll take you out for dinner and a tour of the city if you aren't from Sudbury. You can pay it forward as I signed up and used a fellow classmate as a reference and she got 500 bucks, I got nothing...... Sorry, benhc911, you can have all the westies. Sorry, benhc911, you can have all the westies. this is different from the west, on the west, you get 500 yourself for signing up with or without me, and I get 100 if you include me. it sounds like in the east there is a referral bonus, but no signing bonus
benhc911
If I get in I'll put someone down as long as I get $250 OR someone shows me some good bird hunting areas. as per my previous comment, in the west, the person signing gets 500, the person referring gets 100. Yes, if you tell one of the two bankers that I referred you, I will get 500 dollars. So I figured I'd share the wealth! I'm willing to discuss details, lol. Westies get the short end of the stick in terms of referrals, but then again you gt 500 bucks to sign up
throwaway2014app
This offer for NOSM students only?
Chamilt
This offer for NOSM students only? I can only speak for RBC in sudbury. But I don't think they would care which school you are going to as long as it is a Canadian school, international schools are a different story. Personally, I would want to have my banking contact in the city that I was attending school, but I know many people do not do this. It also may be easier if you are in the North until right up to when school starts. I know people have set it up from outside of town over the phone (ie timmins, Kap etc..). Finally, before signing up, I would look a little more closely at the banks in the city you will be attending as many of them offer perks or specials upon signing similar to this. You just have to shop around.
benhc911
This offer for NOSM students only? most of it will be the same regardless, but some of the perks are regional (ie. comparing the referral bonus and signing bonus of thunder bay and sudbury)
