im_edgy_asf
Hi, I was wondering if anybody tought (or did) drink few shots before interviews. Just enough to still be in control. But enough to be confident. I was thinking that it will boost your confidence in the interviews, you'll respond with more tact and look more sincere but still be in control to be able to think of your answers. Overall, you'll be more confident and have more presence. Is it a good idea ? It seems like one to me... Please give your opinions
Haribo7173
I can't say this hasn't crossed my mind hahaha.
freewheeler
It'll be a great idea when you show up and everyone can smell the alcohol off your breath.
caribou
Good luck judging that precise threshold of "just enough to still be in control, but enough to be confident." Drinking may boost your confidence, but in my experience, the opposite is true for tact. Disinhibition isn't always your friend...
HiHopes
Yeah, I think that relaxing for the individual may be off-putting to those around him or her. This is without even considering the risk of you getting caught in what I would say is worthy of a red flag. Be confident in who you are.
Vicodin
You'll definitely have more presence and be edgy af Overall, you'll be more confident and have more presence.
SunAndMoon
Yeah, make sure you do that with your patients too. But not too much though. Just enough to still be in control. But enough to be confident. Who knows, it might boost your confidence with your patients, you'll respond with more tact and look more sincere but still be in control to be able to think of your answers. Overall, you'd be more confident and have more presence.

FeelingTheBern
Yes the thought is there, and it theoretically does sound like a plausible one, but the risk is too high for the reward. If you are caught smelling of alcohol, forget getting red flagged, you'll probably get black listed from ever applying to that school.

bellejolie
The key to this is PRACTICE. Not alcohol. Put in the work and you won't need the drank.
La_Meilleure_Candidate
The key is MDMA.
cookiemonster99
while you're drunk why don't you try meth as well?

rmorelan
That would be an interesting tactic ha - objectively I am not sure it would work. Confidence is important but you are taking a hit to your cognitive load which is what is being evaluated. I would agree the best solution is simply practice. Eventually everything just becomes automatic.
codebar
Hypothetically, the best drug would be a psychostimulant like Adderal. In the first uses, amphetamine tend to boost self-confidence, enhance cognitive functionment and give the feeling of a great well-being. But then what? Remember that every step along the way in medicine is a bit harder than the last. Why not use a little bit again to gain a bit of confidence to help in the finals? for the OSCE? during clerkship to impress yours attending by your "vitality"? during your residency interview? during a conference? etc... Substance abuse can go a long way... it's a slippery slope. If you feel that you need to use alcohol or drugs to feel good during MMI or anything else, maybe you should discuss that with a psychologist and/or a family doctor. It really sounds like an anxiety disorder. I know you were probably joking. Cheers and good luck.

La_Meilleure_Candidate
I wouldn't suggest a psychostimulant before MMI, since your anxiety could also get higher than ever before.
