HappyAndHopeful
At our school, you get 13 weeks off between first and second year, and 10 weeks off between second and third year. People generally do research, work, travel, just relax at home with their family, do electives, or a combination of all of those

X Æ A-12
What is this summer you speak of?
Bambi
Summers are meant for relaxation, enjoying friends and family which otherwise may not be possible for years! Yes, and drinking too, lol. There is no advantage in my view to working or research.
Edict
In my view there is an advantage to doing something productive partially during summers. That is going to distinguish you from the crowd when it comes to residency application time for competitive specialties and locations. I don't think theres anything wrong with enjoying it, but you do have 13 weeks and you can still take several weeks off for yourself. It all depends on what you want, but logically one would imagine a specialist sitting on your committee works 60+ hours a week and likely respects a strong work ethic if forced to choose. xiphoid

ellorie
We got July and August both preclerkship summers. I got a summer studentship thing and did some research but it was mostly to have a little extra cash flow rather than because I thought it was necessary for CaRMS.
