there's no cure for clinical depression... if someone commits suicide because they are going through a depression phase in their life, then that is a different story. but people with depression since they were born have no way out.. :(

Unfortunately being born with a defective chromosome can leave you disadvantaged in many ways yes, that is correct. However, there are also many things that can be altered with what we know today to make things better than the former option.

you don't h ave to teach children to be curious, normal people develop curiosity naturally. in the end that's what makes us human. in fact studies show children that question everything from an early age (before having a strong fountain of knowledge) are more prone to mental disorders (primarily schizophrenia)

Seriously? You're trying to sound all smart and sophisticated towards this quote? Do you have any proof for your claims made above?

If I had that disorder would I be able to apply to med school as disadvantaged or the stigma still very strong

It depends what chromosome is broken. Some could leave you with something "simple" and manageable like chron's, others could leave you with Alzheimer's, maybe hitting you at the age of 20.

If you're talking about depression I don't believe you could use that as a scapegoat to your poor grades, or to your application, but some schools do take into account significant events, so that's always a possibility.

"I found in my research that the biggest reason people aren’t more self-compassionate is that they are afraid they’ll become self-indulgent. They believe self-criticism is what keeps them on line. Most people hate gotten it wrong because our culture says being hard on yourself is the way to be."

People nowadays think that scientists exist to instruct them, poets, musicians, etc. to give them pleasure. The idea that these have something to teach them - that does not occur to them.

-Wittgenstein

Wittgenstein was an absolute genius. This is a great quote.

I'll add one:

"A man will be imprisoned in a room with a door that's unlocked and opens inwards; as long as it does not occur to him to pull rather than push"

Somebody once told me the definition of hell:

It's your last day on Earth and the person you became meets the person you could have become.

-- Unknown

Interesting. I have the "same one" as my background, except it goes "the worst hell I can think of is that when you die the person you became meets the person you could have become".
