Haha you guys are jokes. Not expecting much to expect here but wouldn't be surprised if it did considering they have a new dean (new policy/cutoffs?) this year as far as I know.

At the least I think it will be 9 + R or 10 + Q (and this only if the GPA is raised considering it was 10 + R last year). Or maybe raise one of the sciences a point and let verbal or writing drop a point, I wouldn't mind ;).

Crap... I think I am screwed. I've got a 4.0 and 36 on mcat but i screwed up my second essay big time and didn't have time to fix it and came out with ws= P :( Do you think they will have any leniency due to high gpa and strong vr, bs, phys mcat scores? i mean, i was in the 97% percentile, how can they say that is bad? I will be pretty choked if they reject me pre-interview because I got a P, especially since I got 2 of my english papers published, they should know I am capable of writing. This sucks...

Yeah... seeing 4.00 + 38Qs being rejected= hard cutoffs.

Wow... Queen's really focus on that Writing Section eh?

A person with 3.5GPA got an interview with a 11/11/12/R

So I guess Queen's doesn't really put emphasis on the GPA that much?? :S:S

(or does it come into play after the interviews?)

That person was a grad student and had a lower GPA cutoff. Undergrads need ~3.78 last 2 year, and ~3.68 cGPA.

But yeah, I agree it's silly to base so much on an arbitrarily set cut-off. I must prefer UofT's holistic system.

Lol I'd never think I'd see the phrase "...prefer UofT..." without some kind of negative or satirical intent from any UTSG undergrad:cool:

Vr - 9 essay - R+!!!!

First time for everything, right?

how about VR- 11, essay- Q !!!!

Please remember there are as many applicants hoping for a Q as those hoping for a VR 9.

I'm hoping that would never happen...

I think they should set the writing section cutoff at S. Simply assuming their applicant pool follows the same population as the general MCAT writers, that would leave them with only 6% of applicants (S=94.1-99.1 percentile). Assuming they receive approx 3000 applications, the S cutoff would leave them with about 180 applicants. I then suggest, the name of those applicants be randomly mixed, and drawn out of a hat just to be consistent with the whole randomness of the process. The first 100 names to be drawn out shall then be offered admissions, and if they withdraw, new selections best be made from the hat. The advantage of this system would be to entirely bypass conducting interviews, and also to significantly shorten the waitlist. I have a feeling their waitlist has just been endless in the past couple of a years.

It has been for historical reasons I believe (once Queens actually went past its waitlist I have been told, and they never, ever want that to happen again)!

and I cannot stop the stats part of my brain from working - You assume that the applicants are drawn from the same one as the general mcat taking pool of students. It isn't, as knowing the past cut offs biasis it towards higher writing sample people only applying (ie no one with a J in WS would ever apply - at least in theory :) ).

That being said you are nicely highlighting the massive interview problem at Queens. In my year there was 800 applicants interviewed - just insane!

At first I thought you were being serious with the S, but this post reflects my perception of the interview selection process for quite a few schools.
