I've been shadowing/interning a neurologist all this time and felt stronger towards pursuing this career goal. I want to write an MCAT at least once this year, otherwise I'll feel as if I've wasted another f***ing year. I gave up a soccer scholarship, sold my shares of the business, and all I have is this to see to completion. I REALLY do not want to go across the border. I do not have any debts from undergrad, but I really want to practice medicine in Canada and not in the states or anywhere else on that matter. American Medical Graduates are not treated like International Medical Graduates for CaRMS, but as Canadian Medical Graduates, so you will have the same chances as a CMG. I don't even have an english credit That narrows my list to 10 US schools with Feinberg, Case Western, Dartmouth, and Virginia being the top 4. OMSAS GPA 3.96. 2 publications in small impact journals, 2nd Author and Co-author. I might be getting a 1st author in a small impact journal this summer if all goes well. Volunteering of 200+hrs at a local hospital. VP of a club, regular executive of another. MCAT: Rewriting, so unknown for now. Assuming I do NOT get an 11 in VR (i know UWO is out since I'm a 3rd year applicant), but say I had 9/10 on VR. Realistically, which medical schools should I be applying for? I know my grades are good and MCAT is solid (save the WS), but I get the impression my ECs are quite weak and I know how tough the competition is. And they are mostly research-related, very little variety or long-term commitments. With those stats, you can relax and play some video games. I have however, had a upward trend, especially from my first year where a got my share of B's. I plan on only applying to MUN, as I'm in province applicant. I have quite a bit of research experience, including 2 pubs and experience in several research areas. I have mediocre EC's, volunteering through school (on societies and in research labs) and in the community (hospital, different charities) and some hobbies that I've stuck with for 15 years. I'm writing the MCAT the end of July. What score should I really aim for to make my application competitive? Do I have a shot at MUN and are there any other schools that would be worth trying for? Haha indeed I have considered changing to Chopper in the past I will consider schools outside Ontario when I apply in my 4th year. But in my 3rd year, I'm trying out for Ontario schools only due to personal reasons... Can anyone further comment on my chances? Thanks! So here's my info: GPA: 3.94 (UofT scale), 3.91 (OMSAS, without summer courses), 3.92 (OMSAS, with summer courses), around 90% average. (Enrolled in one of the most rigorous Program of Study, 1 specialist and 1 major; courses taken were mostly difficult and with heavy workload). MCAT: currently preparing, will be writing it in August. ECs: hospital volunteering (3 years), tutoring, youth outreach programs, volunteering at random events/celebrations, first year student mentor (will be starting soon). My EC seems weak, especially considering I had no other paid employment except for laboratory research jobs... I have been sick during high school and missed 8 months of classes (studied by myself and managed to survive the tests/exams). Those frequent hospital visits lasted for more than 2 years, and during those years I was completely excluded from being involved in ECs... Research: 1 non-science research project (first year summer), research in a pharmacology lab (second year summer) and in a biochem/biophysics lab (present) Ps: I suck at sports and have no musical talents... Hobbies: very "non-standard" (I do things like calligraphy, embroidery, not professional though).. Awards & scholarships: UofT Scholar, several scholarships offered by my college, undergrad research awards, BC Science Achievement Award (cuz I did my high school in BC), other random provincial awards for doing well in BC provincial exams. So I'm guessing you've just been elected as the VP for predental for upcoming school year? Yeah. I'm just trying to see if I should look at more to do, even though I don't really know what else lol. For example, I'm a squad manager right now, but plan to do it again next year (before application deadline), and I've only done the SMaRT program once so far, but plan to do it next year as well. I'm also planning on potentially being a Peer Tutor next year as well (my prof asked me if I was interested during the semester for the following year, but I told her I wasn't sure, so hopefully the position isn't filled yet) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Hospital volunteering requires at least a 6 month commitment which I don't think I can do with school, since I live on residence during the school year, although I would've applied for it.
